Each individual belongs to numerous groups, based on family, culture, gender, region, interest, lifestyle, spiritual beliefs, age, and personality, to name only a few. Whether we engage with these communities actively or not, they play a part in who we are and how we relate to the world. In groupwork, each participant brings awareness to who he or she is in relation to others. Through our interactions, we find new ways of seeing ourselves and practice new ways of being in the world. By doing personal work within community, we are given the support of a compassionate group to engage with our challenges and try out new behaviors.
